Inside the mind
of a designer
Design Mind is a technical magazine about contemporary product design, from the objects we use every day to the latest innovations. The concept is to step inside the mind of an industrial designer. It captures both the millimetric order of a technical drawing or a model and the controlled chaos of sketching and ideation. Five values guide the publication: precision, balance, control, duality and technicality. Its content ranges from design classics such as the Thonet No. 14 and the Red and Blue Chair to the design thinking process, prototyping, and an interview with Patricia Urquiola.

That duality between order and chaos shapes the whole layout. A strict 9-column grid and a 3 pt baseline set the structure, and image-led spreads and oversized numbers break it with rhythm. Safiro for headlines and Neue Montreal for text are paired with a palette of greys, black, white and a single technical blue. The magazine measures 240 × 340 mm and is printed as a physical piece. The cover is Materica 350 g paper with a blind embossed title. The three interior sections each use a different paper, offset, recycled and gloss coated, so the reader feels the change in material along with the content.
